James Franklin expresses frustration over his early performance in Penn State vs. Ohio State

Early in the first half of Saturday’s game between Penn State And State of Ohio, James Franklin According to FOX, he was spoken to officials several times Jenny Taft. He called several missed calls, particularly on the Buckeyes defense.

Franklin called the officiating after they missed a hold call in the secondary at one point. Taft said this is in line with something he said earlier this week about the Buckeyes’ unity and whether they should face more penalties.

“Coach Franklin was already very animated with the officials, telling them that they had missed some calls – specifically a missed holding call in the secondary – and saying, ‘Don’t let them hold us. Let them play us,” Taft said. “Franklin said earlier this week that he believes that Ohio State secondary is getting away with too much. He became frustrated early on with the officer on duty.”

Ohio State entered Saturday’s Top-5 showdown with the fourth-fewest penalties in the Big Ten. On average, the Buckeyes were called for 4.9 flags per game and 34 total through the first seven games of the season. Penn State, meanwhile, has been called for 39 penalties – an average of 5.6 over its first seven games.

There is a lot at stake for both teams in Saturday’s showdown. To start with the College Football Playoff is still in play, even though Ohio State is coming off a loss to No. 1 seed Oregon and Penn State came in undefeated. There’s also the race to the Big Ten Championship, especially since the Buckeyes are undefeated Indiana on their schedule.

But it is also a big game for the coaches. ESPNs Kirk Herbstreit pointed out both coaches’ struggles against top-five teams, and that’s why he said Ryan Day and James Franklin faced with pressurealso.

“The winning coach here will be in a great position. It’s going to go well. They are looking to the future,” Herbstreit further said College GameDay. “(The) team losing, the coach losing – these guys cheering right now, there’s going to be anger for Penn State or Ohio State. Ryan Day is 2-7 against top five teams. If he loses his game, the loyal Buckeye fans will let him know. And I think if you look at what we’ve done here, what’s (James Franklin), 1-12 against the top five?

“So someone is going to leave a lot of that behind, and someone is going to have to continue to deal with it.”
