Liverpool head coach Arne Slot provides injury updates ahead of facing Brighton This We

Liverpool progressed to the next round of the EFL Cup, taking on Southampton after their 3-2 win over Brighton on Wednesday. Still without some key figures in the squad, both for the starting and depth positions, Reds boss Arne Slot provided updates on all the absentees during today’s press conference.

Asked about Diogo Jota and Alisson Becker:

“I think I’ve said it a few times already that it is always difficult to say exactly when they are ready, because the final phase of recovery in particular can always take a few extra days or less.

“The fact is that they are not there for the international break and let’s see if they can join us afterwards.”

Finally, we were asked about the possible availability of our most recent acquisition, Federico Chiesa:

“Chiesa is not back for the international break, but there is only a week to go. We hope that he can do things again during the international break and that he can be with us again afterwards.”

There was no mention of Harvey Elliott at this press conference, but it was previously confirmed that Harvey is still a long way away from a return, and will most likely do so after the upcoming international break.

Alisson Becker has been missing since midway through Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace in the Premier League, and Diogo Jota has been absent since his clash with Chelsea where he suffered a rib injury. Harvey Elliott was absent for most of the season due to a foot injury. And no notable details have emerged about Chiesa’s injury, with Arne citing a combination of fitness issues and injury concerns as the Italian has not had a pre-season and has had to jump to a level of intensity he was not used to.

Hopefully this international break will allow the boys to rest and come back stronger for the run up to Christmas.
