Fiesta de Reyes Día de los Muertos: Fiesta de Reyes in Old Town San Diego State Historic Park celebrates Día de los Muertos daily through Nov. 3. There will be live entertainment on the Fiesta de Reyes stage, traditional and contemporary Día de los Muertos altars, professional face painters, art demonstrations and Catrinas at the plaza. Festival at arts center: This 29th annual Día de los Muertos festival will feature a community interactive chalk mural, 180 community altars to honor the memory of loved ones, a Día de Muertos-inspired artwalk, live music, cultural performances and a Catrina contest along with food vendors artisan market, kids’ crafts and face painting. Performances in the concert hall start at 5 p.m. There will be a marigold bar serving drinks and dancing to the tunes of DJ Zuni. The museum will be open with free admission, showing the current exhibition “Helen and Newton Harrison: California Work.” As part of our Día de los Muertos celebration, a special altar will be on display in Gallery 1. 4 to 9 p.m. Friday. Community Connections: Honoring Samoan and Mexican Heritage at Landes.: The Oceanside Public Library runs a cultural program, “Community Connections: Honoring Samoan and Mexican Heritage at Landes.” The series, which continues through December, celebrates the diverse cultures and histories that contribute to the Landes neighborhood. Las Cafeteras: Los Angeles-based Las Cafeteras will perform its mashup of sounds from cumbia, Afrobeat, soul, rock, hip-hop and folk music on the campus of UC San Diego. Las Cafeteras released its third album “A Night in Nepantla” earlier this year. The six-person band plays live instruments and sings about love and justice in Spanish and English. 7:30 p.m. Friday. Free pizza: Mr. Moto is offering free pizzas in November: All customers have to do is donate to the YMCA of San Diego County. Kirk Franklin: Grammy-winning gospel singer and choirmaster Kirk Franklin brings his “Reunion Tour” to San Diego State University. Franklin is known for mixing gospel music with R&B and hip-hop in the 1990s. Dia de los Muertos in Chula Vista: Dia de los Muertos celebrates family and friends who have past on, with an acknowledgement of the loss, but a celebration of the life. For the fourth time, Chula Vista will be the scene for festivities, including a Catrín and Catrina ensemble contest, music and dancing across the area, a car show, an ofrenda (altar) competition, a car show, photo opportunities and other activities. J Boog: American singer and songwriter J Boog has been nominated twice for Best Reggae Album at the Grammy Awards. The California product released his first album in 2007 “Hear Me Roar” and found more success in his second album featuring the song “Let’s Do It Again.” Over the years, J Boog has been featured with artists such as Fiji and Common Kings. 8 p.m. Saturday. San Diego Food + Wine Festival: The culinary and cultural festival, is back for the 20th year from Nov. 2-10. The event features hundreds of domestic and international wineries, craft beer and spirits, local culinary legends and nationally acclaimed chefs. The festival features more than 300 chefs, wineries, farmers, artists and brands. Along with the festival’s Grand Weekend, there are more than 15 events in neighborhoods of San Diego, showcasing cuisine and wine, and celebrating the culinary traditions of Latin, Asian and BIPOC communities. Candlelight procession: As part of Día de los Muertos celebrations, Old Town’s Immaculate Conception Church hosts a candlelight procession with blessings and traditional dances by Danza Azteca Atlachinolli. Gem Diego: The San Diego Mineral & Gem Society presents Gem Diego, a gem and mineral show. There will be nearly two dozen gem, mineral and jewelry dealers, numerous exhibits and lapidary demonstrations along with a kids’ zone, free gem and mineral identification, crystals, fossils, rough, cut stones, slabs and prizes. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Liberty Station Conference Center, 2600 Laning Road, in Point Loma. Bike the Coast: Bike the Coast is slated to draw nearly 2,000 riders along Highway 101 and surrounding communities on Nov. 2. The event offers several distances from 7 to 100 miles, with scenic courses through beach towns. Participants finish the ride at the Oceanside Municipal Pier for the Bike the Coast Finish Festival. There will be food and drinks, live rock music performed by Gone Blonde Band and a beer garden hosted by BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse. Proceeds from the beer garden benefit Ride MS, San Diego. Robert Frost memorial concert: To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of American poet Robert Frost, the San Diego Master Chorale is partnering with The Robert Frost Society, Library Foundation San Diego, San Diego Public Library and Sweetwater Union high schools to perform Randall Thompson’s suite Frostiana, which features settings of seven of Frost’s famous poems, including “The Road Not Taken.” The concerts are at 4 p.m. Nov. 2 at Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church, 2128 Chatsworth Blvd., and at 4 p.m. Nov. 3 at San Dieguito United Methodist Church, 170 Magdalena, Encinitas. The program will also include works by other American composers, including Anthony Trecek-King, Shawn Kirchner, Stephen Paulus and H.T. Burleigh. Craig Santos Perez Author talk: Craig Santos Perez will give a talk from 2 to 3 p.m. Nov. 2 at the San Diego Central Library’s Neil Morgan Auditorium, 330 Park Blvd. Perez is a National Book Award winner and the editor of nine anthologies, including Indigenous Pacific Islander Eco-Literatures. Novemberfest: The 10th annual Novemberfest, a craft beer, mead and wine festival, is from noon to 4 p.m. Nov. 2 at Alta Vista Botanical Gardens, 1270 Vale Terrace Drive. Highlights include live music, tastings, food, craft booths, games, shopping, silent auction and raffles. The tastings will feature a variety of craft beers, wines and mead from local experts in the brewing community. Proceeds support the Alta Vista Botanical Gardens and the Amigos De Vista Lions Club. Fall Back Festival: The Gaslamp Quarter Historic Foundation’s annual Fall Back Festival returns with family-fun activities. This street fair gives children the opportunity to learn about San Diego’s history and culture via interactive demonstrations and activities. Fleet Week: Locals can get an up close look at military life and service at this annual event. Sofi Tukker: The Grammy-nominated dance music duo Sofi Tukker has just released a third studio album “BREAD” and are promoting it with a world tour that includes a stop at Gallagher Square. “BREAD” is an acronym for “Be Really Energetic and Dance,” and the album is a return to its roots when Tucker Halpern was in college and Sophie Hawley-Weld was performing Brazilian music as a jazz player, Sofi Tukker told the Billboard. 6 p.m. Sunday. Archaeology Day: California State Parks and the Colorado Desert Archaeology Society will put on a free Archaeology Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 2 at the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park Visitor Center, 200 Palm Canyon Drive, and the nearby Begole Archaeology Research Center. The family-friendly event celebrates the cultural heritage of the Anza-Borrego Desert and the people who have lived there for thousands of years. Highlights include hands-on pottery making, rock art painting, guided tours, storytelling and a basket weaving demonstration. A guided field trip to an 8.5-acre cultural site occupied by the Kumeyaay about 1,100 years ago will be held that afternoon. Carlsbad Village Street Faire: The Carlsbad Village Street Faire is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 3 on Grand Avenue and Carlsbad Boulevard. The fair features 900 arts and crafts booths, antiques, an international food court and children’s rides along with entertainment and a beer garden. A free shuttle bus will run from The Shoppes at Carlsbad and the Coaster Station. Fleet Week concerts: The Navy Band Southwest Rock Band will kick off festivities at 6 p.m. Nov. 3 in Little Italy as part of the Fleet Week Concert series, performing a program that blends classic American tunes, patriotic anthems and modern hits. The Marine Band San Diego Sound Strike will continue the celebration with a tribute to military service members at 6 p.m. Nov. 4 in Little Italy. The Nov. 4 concert also marks the birthday of the late Gunnery Sgt. John Basilone and is a tribute to the legendary Marine who was awarded the Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross for his heroism in the Battle of Guadalcanal during World War II.
