Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter could etch the Colorado Buffaloes’ name into Heisman history

Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter are the undeniable Heisman favorites from Colorado, but can they both be invited to the 2024 Heisman ceremony in New York – making history for the Buffs?

Two players from the same team have rarely been named finalists and invited together to the Heisman ceremony. Two teammates have been invited eight times in 42 years and this has not happened since 2004; when two pairs of teammates were invited.

Colorado has never had two finalists during the Heisman ceremony. If Hunter and Shedeur can pull it off, it will be historic for Colorado in more ways than one.

“In seven of those cases, those teammates came from an undefeated team that was ranked No. 1 (five times) or No. 2 (twice) in the country,” Brian Howell of the Denver Post explains further.

Colorado is already 6-2. Even if they manage to win every remaining game in their schedule, they would still finish 10-2, making it a truly historic feat if Hunter and Sanders win.

Hunter is currently the clear Heisman favorite, with +220 odds per Fox Sports. So far, Sanders hasn’t had much of a presence in the Heisman conversation, but his name is slowly gaining popularity as he has top-seven odds, with +4000 odds to make the Heisman finals.

Deion Sanders expressed his dissatisfaction with his son not getting enough attention for the Heisman with his angry “Because he’s my son” speech. Shedeur could be overlooked because Hunter has all the lights, or because Colorado isn’t winning enough. Now that Colorado has a good winning record, their QB is in the top 10 of Heisman lists.

But none of this matters to the Buffs QB because he just wants to see his teammate win.

“I just want Travis to win. Travis, he’s hands down the best player in college football. And I’m glad he wins,” Shedeur said candidly in his post-game speech.

The Heisman crowd coming to Colorado this season is relatively high, but whether the history of the etchings will happen is the real question here.
