Five Wiregrass high school flag football teams are entering the postseason

The pursuit of an AHSAA flag football state title begins this week in the state of Alabama with the state playoffs, including five teams from the Wiregrass.

The opening round action can be played from Monday to Thursday on the field of the top two teams in a region.

Of the five local teams, only one is at home: Northside Methodist Academy. The Knights, who finished second in Class 1A-5A, Region 2, host Selma on Tuesday at Rip Hewes Stadium in Class 1A-5A action. The opening performance is scheduled for 4:30 PM

The other four local teams – Carroll and Charles Henderson in Class 1A-5A and Dothan and Enterprise in Class 6A/7A – are all on the road after finishing third or fourth in their regions.

Both Dothan and Carroll play Monday with the Wolves traveling to Brookwood in a Class 6A/7A playoff game on Monday and the Eagles play at Montgomery Catholic in Class 1A-5A action at 5:30 p.m.

Enterprise travels to Northridge for a Class 6A/7A playoff game on Thursday at 4 p.m.

The winners of this week’s first round will advance to the second round matches on November 11-14.

The state quarterfinals are scheduled for Nov. 18-21 and the state semifinals are scheduled for Nov. 25-28.

The state championships are scheduled for Dec. 4 at Protective Stadium in Birmingham, with the Class 1A-5A contest at 11 a.m. and the Class 6A/7A contest at 3 p.m.
