Hugh Hewitt resigns as Washington Post columnist after storming Paper’s livestream

Conservative columnist Hugh Hewitt has resigned The Washington Post on Friday, shortly after leaving a stormy livestream debate.

Hewitt’s is the latest dismissal to rock the world After but this time unexpectedly from the right. It shows that Jeff Bezos’ crisis is not mitigating, but instead hitting both sides of the political divide.

Hewitt walked away After“First Look,” featuring liberal columnists Jonathan Capehart and Ruth Marcus, after a heated discussion about Donald Trump’s lawsuit over alleged voting irregularities in Pennsylvania.

Capehart began by asking Marcus if Trump is “laying the groundwork for disputing the election by complaining that cheating took place in Pennsylvania?” He cited Trump’s lawsuit against Bucks County alleging irregularities.

“No election can be fair in the eyes of Donald Trump unless Donald Trump wins it,” Marcus said. As Hewitt tried to intervene, Capehart said, “Let Ruth finish, Hugh.”

“Well, I just have to say that we’re news people, even if it’s the opinion section,” Hewitt said. ‘It must be reported. Bucks County was overturned in court and ordered to open additional days because they were breaking the law and telling people to go home. So that lawsuit was filed by the Republican National Committee, and it was successful… We are news people, even though we have opinions, and we have to report the whole story when we bring up part of the story. So yes, he is angry about Bucks County, but he was right and he won in court. That’s the story.”

After a pause, Capehart said, “I don’t appreciate being lectured about reporting when Hugh has come here many times and says a lot of things that aren’t based on fact.”

Hewitt then called the livestream the “most dishonest election ad” he has ever made and left the set.

Hewitt has been to the After since 2017. He also hosts a radio program in which he recently interviewed Trump.

“As the newsroom’s live journalism platform, Washington Post Live is known for its dynamic conversations and thought-provoking perspectives on the most important issues of the day, like this morning’s ‘First Look’ program, a After A spokesperson said this in a statement to the Daily Beast.

The newspaper is under fire this week because of owner Jeff Bezos’ decision not to support a presidential candidate.
