Maxwell Frost and David Hogg say the licensing law contributed to the Orlando mass shooting

US representative Maxwell Frost sees a direct connection between Florida’s new unauthorized carrying law and a Halloween shooting in his district.

During a press call hosted by the Democratic National Committee, Florida Politics asked Frost about one to shoot in Orlando early Friday, there were two deaths and six others hospitalized. Frost, a Democrat from Orlando, noted that this is not the first time shootings have occurred in downtown Orlando. He was present at a 2016 shooting in the area.

“Our police chief came out and said that over the last few years, we’ve typically been screening people and doing security checks to make sure people aren’t bringing guns into downtown Orlando,” Frost said.

“They had to stop these displays this year because of a law passed in Florida called permitless carry, which allows people without a permit to conceal a gun. The police couldn’t screen people because they can’t tell people they can’t have a gun around because the street is technically a public street.”

Frost addressed the shooting during a call on activating young voters ahead of Tuesday’s general election. Hogg predicted the issue will also motivate people in critical state-level competitions. He said he will be knocking on the door for the Florida House candidate this weekend Nate Douglas and expect this will help the Democrat win Huiswijk 37.

Frost and Hogg said many young voters feel motivated to demand changes in gun policies at the state and federal level. Both support the Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris and I think the issue will move many voters to support her on Tuesday.

Frost noted that the Democratic president Joe Biden created the first national gun violence prevention agency. He introduced a bill to oblige future governments to keep this open, and was at a time White House Ceremony with Biden and Harris when the initiative was announced.

“There is a lot of work we have to do. But I will tell you this: the gun violence prevention movement is the strongest it has ever been,” Frost said. “We are stronger than the gun lobby. We are stronger than the NRA. We are stronger than weapons manufacturers. We know this because we are having the most wins we have ever had. The first gun violence prevention agency, the most executive orders to combat gun violence.”

He noted that just a decade ago, many Democrats were reluctant to embrace policies like an assault weapons ban, but that has now been added to the party platform.

“It is also part of the platform of our current and future president,” Frost said. “So we build energy, we sustain energy and we continue to work to save lives.”
