Minnesotans are reflecting on the blizzard of ’91 amid this year’s Halloween snow

As heavy snow falls across Minnesota on Thursday, people are looking back on the Halloween Blizzard of 1991 like it was yesterday.

Bright orange fall colors were infused with winter white, the fresh powder bringing back old memories for some St. Louis park residents.

‘It’s covered in snow. Yeah, it’s the icing on the cake, so to speak,” a St. Louis Park resident told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS.

It sounds like a tall tale, but on October 31, 1991, a snowstorm was the reality for the people of Minnesota. The story takes on new life every October.

“I remember I had a little Honda Accord. The buses got stuck,” said the resident. “I kind of hibernated for the rest of the day.”

Families faced plunging temperatures and high winds as they trekked through mountains of snow.

Fast forward 33 years later, snow is still no match for Minnesotans and their pets as some brave the temperatures with a walk around the Lake of the Isles.

The snow forecast for Halloween isn’t close to 1991, but you can never speak too soon.

Mother Nature always has a trick up her sleeve.

“I call it a trick just because it was 80 degrees earlier this week,” said a Minnesota resident walking her dog.
